Directions

  1. Label each quart-size zip-top freezer bag with the date, the name of the smoothie and a reminder to add 3/4 cup almond milk.

  2. Add ingredients except almond milk to bag, press out excess air, seal and freeze at least 6 hours and up to 3 months.

  3. Remove bag from freezer 5 to 10 minutes before blending.  Knock sealed bag on a hard surface to break up into smaller chunks. Empty contents of 1 bag into a blender and add almond milk.  Blend about 1 minute until smooth, scraping sides with a spatula, as needed.  Adjust consistency with additional milk or ice cubes, if desired.

TIPS:

  • Eco-Friendly Bags – Use resealable sandwich-size silicone food storage pouches instead of single-use zip-top freezer bags.
  • Make Ahead Option – Blend smoothie with almond milk before freezing then pour into a silicone ice cube tray; freeze. Remove desired number of cubes to a pint size mason jar to thaw overnight in the refrigerator; stir before drinking.  Or, place frozen smoothie cubes in a blender with a bit more almond milk and blend.
  • Smoothies make delicious popsicles.  Prepare smoothie with almond milk before freezing; pour into popsicle molds, insert sticks and freeze.
  • Save drained fruit juice to add to seltzer water, vinaigrettes, fruit salad, cake mix batter, iced tea, lemonade, hot cereal, stir fry sauce or BBQ sauce.
