Tomatoes and Peaches Packed With Sunshine

Del Monte

Every time you open a Del Monte® can of diced tomatoes or can of sliced peaches, it’s like filling a room with sunshine.

The tomatoes and peaches grown in the prime sunshine of California’s Central Valley are also harvested and packed using the power of the very same sun. Del Monte goes to great lengths to use renewable energy, and it’s something the company and you can feel good about.

“Our Kingsford and Hanford plants get a significant portion of their total electric needs from photovoltaic (solar) panels mounted on the roofs,” Robin Connell, Manager of Sustainability Programs at Del Monte, explained.

“In Hanford, most of the tomatoes are sourced within 100 miles. And the plant is run on approximately 8% solar power.

In Kingsburg, most of the peaches are also sourced within 100 miles. And the plant runs on approximately 30% solar power, ” shared Ms. Connell.

This marks a significant, energy conscious effort by Del Monte. In all, over 9,000 solar panels are currently being used to convert energy from the sun into electricity. The solar panels in the Central Valley will last 30 years and result in the avoidance of more than 3 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

The next time you whip up a pasta sauce using Del Monte canned tomatoes or make a dessert more delightful with Del Monte peaches, give a nod to Del Monte’s secret ingredient. The sun.
