Creamy Green Beans with Crunchy Pita Strips
Crisp pita strips atop baked green beans in an herbed cream sauce make a tasty side for chicken, pork or beef.
2 Tbsps. butter
2 Tbsps. all-purpose flour
½ tsp. Garlic salt
1 Tbsp. chopped fresh oregano [or 1 tsp. dried oregano]
¼ tsp. black pepper
1 cup milk
8 oz. sour cream
3 cans (14.5oz.ea.) Del Monte® Cut Green Beans, drained
1 pita bread, split horizontally and cut into thin strips
2 Tbsps. olive oil
Preheat oven to 350°F. For sauce, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in flour, garlic salt, oregano and pepper. Stir in milk. Cook and stir over medium heat until thick and bubbly. Cook and stir 1 minute longer. Remove from heat. Stir in sour cream. Place beans in a 1 1/2-qt. baking dish. Pour sauce over beans and toss to coat.
Toss pita strips and oil in a medium bowl. Top casserole with pita strips. Bake, uncovered, 30 minutes or until pita strips begin to brown and green bean mixture is heated through.
